The International Criminal Court (ICC) has disclosed that it’s conducting a preliminary investigation into the events surrounding the #EndSARS protests and shooting of peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos state, BBC reported Wednesday.

In a statement, the ICC prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda had earlier said it received information on alleged crimes to which it has now instituted a probe.

The ICC stated that the examination would “assess whether the legal criteria for opening an investigation under the Rome Statute… are met”.
The international court confirmed it is analysing the material sent and its findings would be made public when a final decision on the process is reached, according to BBC.
